Homeschool Curriculum and How to Use it

All units in this curriculum are differentiated and teach the same content in a way that fits grade levels Kindergarten through 8th grade. This way a homeschool educator can run units and activities with children at different grade levels and skill levels simultaneously.

This differentiated, standards-based curriculum can also be helpful to teachers teaching multiple skill levels (especially English Language Development or SPED) and teachers who teach multiple grade levels.

My curriculum can be purchased in a few major bundles. Once each bundle is purchased an educator has all the resources needed to teach every reading, writing, math, or science/social studies standards for grades kindergarten through sixth grade (some literacy resources included up to 12th grade, while resources like the math units end in 6th grade).

This article is a brief overview of ALL the curriculum that is differentiated and created for homeschool classes (or the differentiated classroom). This brief overview is meant to serve as a scope to show how the different units for sale fit together and can be used throughout the year.

When purchased together these resources will be able to be used every year for all grade levels Kindergarten through 6th grade. That means that this is ALL the curriculum you would need to purchase for all of elementary school and junior high if you are homeschooling. Math:

1. Math Facts: Leveled program with practice problems for students to memorize facts; first counting and cardinality, then addition and subtraction, and finally multiplication and division. 2. Writing:

1. Holiday Writing-writing activities and prompts for every holiday (as well as art projects that go along with holiday read aloud)

2. Creative Writing: Creative writing project where students get to practice narrative writing, as well as technical writing (recipes, user’s manuals, wildlife guide books) in a creative way. They even get practice reading and creating maps!

3. Daily Writing, Spelling, and Grammar Practice: This includes a few resources that can be done weekly or daily to help teach grammar, spelling (using any word list), and writing.

Thematic Units (Science/Social Studies):

These units are used to teach a science or social studies concept while also teaching All writing standards for every grade AND nonfiction comprehension standards for every grade (when paired with the Reading Comprehension Standards). Each Unit includes: Lists of Focus Topics within Weather

Physical Science/Earth Science:

Weather Unit: Types of weather, the water cycle, types of clouds, weathering and erosion Space/Solar System: Motion in space, solar systems, planets, constellations and mythology behind them. Composition of Earth/Rock Formations: How erosion effects earth, types of rocks, layers of the earth Matter/Energy: Particles of matter, laws of matter, the law of motion Light and Sound Waves: How waves work, what we see and hear Life Science:

2. The 10 Themes for the Social Studies Units are:

The Job of a Citizen: Civic Responsibility, Occupations, Schooling/preparing Governments and Politics: Around the world and in the US Cultures around the World: World religions, traditions, geography and culture Economics/Sociology: Basic Economics, beginning sociology and psychology City Planning: How city systems work and how to read maps

History:

Civil Rights: The fight throughout the world and within the US for civil rights. War Throughout Time: Learn the history of wars throughout civilization. What causes wars and is it ever okay? Ancient Civilizations: The history of the ancient world and how it influenced culture around the world today. European History: Medieval times, influential art and literature from Europe, how Europe has changed throughout history US History: Journey to freedom, wars, immigration/westward expansion, Decades Project for the 1900s BONUS: Biography Character Traits Unit There are also two extra parts to the science and social studies curriculum that can be done weekly or daily:

3. Current Events Minute and Reflection Journal: teaches students how to find reliable news and determine bias, as well as reflect on things that are going on in the world today. 4. Science WONDERINGS Journal: Encourages students to become lifelong learners. To make observations about what they see and research new questions.
